GB EZ Version 7.0
Frequently Asked Questions
What about February 29th?
If you have a February 29 listing to be added in a non-leap year,
go to the Extra Date Block module (Navigation Bar/Extra Date Block),
select February from the drop down box and enter your listing text.
BE SURE TO INDICATE WHAT TYPE OF LISTING (Birthday, Anniversary, etc.)
YOU ARE PUTTING IN THE EXTRA DATE BLOCK! When you send in your order,
be sure to submit an Extra Date Block Report (Navigation Bar/Reports/Extra
Date Block (Home Office) with your order.
I Cannot View the Adobe Reader Files on The Promotion Kit CD
If nothing happens when you click on the Adobe Reader file icons
on the Promotion Kit CD (i.e. GB EZ Users Guide, Tear Sheet Order
Booklet, etc.), it can be one of two problems, either you do not have
Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 (or greater) installed on your computer or
you have a previous version of Acrobat Reader that is conflicting
with Reader 5.0. Installing Reader 5.0 without uninstalling a previous
version causes conflicts. If you cannot view the Reader files, close
the Promotion Kit CD screen and do the following: Click on the Start
button, then Settings, then Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs.
Look for any Adobe Acrobat Reader programs and uninstall all versions.
Go back to the Promotion Kit CD (double click on My Computer, then
your CD drive icon) and click to install Acrobat Reader 5.0 from the
CD. You will now be able to open all the Reader files on the Promotion
Kit CD.
I'm having Import Listing problems
A Listings Text file, either one you created from your GB_CAL file
or a file we sent you from your last order, may not always import
properly. If you get a run time error, you can correct the problem
by opening the listings text file and finding the cause of the error.
Most word processing programs will open a listings text file. Wordpad
(supplied with Windows (Start/Accessories/Wordpad) or NotePad will
open this file. It will look like this when opened:
#--------------------------------------------------------
# Order Number : 38553
# Organization : Lions
# City : Clinton, NC
# Chairman :
# Calendar Type : T
# Block Type : C
# Begin Date : 01/01/2000
#--------------------------------------------------------
00|000123| |B|Kevin Teachey
00|000123| |B|Rebecca Harris
00|000123| |B|Sheila Blackman
00|000123| |B|Tony Tyndall
00|000101| |B|Hannah Underwood
00|0001WE| |B|(Continued from January 12)
00|0001WE| |A|Randy & Cindi Burchette
00|0001WE| |B|Eddie Evans
00|0001WE| |B|Kaitlin Carr
00|000102| |B|Regenia Van Gorder
The listings text file sequence can be decoded as follows:
The first two zeros are used in GB CAL to reference each listing.
The next six numbers after the vertical line identify the date. The
first two digits refer to the year (eg. 00 = 2000), the next two digits
are the month (eg. 01 = January) and the last two digits refer to
the day.
After the space and another vertical line, the next column is the
listing type (B – birthday, A – anniversary, + - Continuation,
E – event).
The listing text follows the last vertical line.
Run time errors are caused by:
1. A blank line anywhere in the listing text. To fix this, highlight
the entire blank line and delete. In the example above, this is shown
just below the listing for Rebecca Harris.
2. Listings that were in a blank square in your previous calendar
must be assigned a date. Listings in a blank square will be coded
in the text file like the Listing “(Continued from January 12)”
in the above example. Notice instead of a day in the sequence, WE
(or letters) are used. Simply replace the letters with the day. Be
sure to use a zero for a place holder for a single digit day. In the
above example, since the listings coded 0001WE were to be printed
on January 12, change the 0001WE to 000112 for each of the listings.
Don’t forget to delete the line “(Continued from January
12)” or it will be printed with the rest of the January 12 listings.
After you have made the changes to the Listings Text file, Save
the file (File/Save) and your import should work just fine.
Download problems?
Every server in every locality in America has unique characteristics.
We do not have control over how long a given server will allow you
to stay on line. GB EZ is a 20 megabyte program and can take up to
3 hours to download depending on your modem and computer speed. The
biggest problem with downloading is the loss of your connection before
the download is complete. If this is your problem, try downloading
a free software program called Download Wonder from www.forty.com.
If you are cut off before a download is complete, this program will
resume the download and not make you start over. Version 5.0 of Internet
Explorer and the latest version of AOL are suppose to do the same
thing.
